Don’t Let Me Down, 2010

Not much to get excited about in MTV’s list of the “most-anticipated albums” of the New Year.  The headliners of this particular list are (yawn) Blink-182, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Diddy, Kanye West, Vampire Weekend, Usher, and MGMT, whose debut Oracular Spectacular was a tremendous disappointment aside from the songs that we had already heard before actually getting the album.

That said, MTV does note new releases from the Arcade Fire as well as Gorillaz, whose new stuff features Lou Reed, Mos Def and Barry Gibb on vocals (wow), as well as still-up-in-the-air releases from Radiohead and The Strokes.  If those four albums were released, and were better than subsequent releases from other bands who used to be good (The Bravery, The Flaming Lips, Arctic Monkeys, just to name a few), then 2010 could turn out to be a potentially good year for music (okay, I kind of liked that Arctic Monkeys album).  I know four good albums doesn’t seem like a lot, but there’s a lot more offal out there than there is good stuff, so I’ll count this one as a victory if it comes to pass.
