I’ve long considered doing of doing a type of running assorted links thing, a la Tyler Cowen (and by “a la” I mean “so I’m going to shamelessly steal this idea from”).  Yglesias and Ezra Klein also do this, but they only do it at the end of the day since blogging is, well, their day job.  My workday doesn’t exactly flow like that, so mine will be a little more random, like Tyler’s—and a little more baseball/MMA/Tigers oriented.  If you don’t care about those things, then fine.  You don’t have to read them.  That’s why they’re Whatnots.

1)   Much like Medicare, there are no easy answers when it comes to public pensions.

2)   It looks like the Norks have human kamikaze torpedoes.  Apparently, the pilots are told that they can escape.  I’ll leave them to think about that whole line of reasoning.

3)   Why do the world’s great powers, which seem to do so well at the Olympics, not do quite as well in international soccer?

4)   The line on the Celtics to win the NBA Finals is +150.  Phil Jackson is 47-0 in postseason series when he wins the first game.  How high will this line go if the Lakers win tonight?  High enough to place a bet.

5)   Against instant replay in baseball.  In case you’ve been in a cave, everybody thinks the Galarraga debacle from last night will result in replay.
